October Skies

The sky has been alive this month, from ombre sunrises over the Chugach Mountains to stunning sunsets reflected in the Turnagain Arm tide:

I find it challenging to photograph the moon, but trust me when I say this Hunter Moon was a treat to watch rise over Cook Inlet. It made for a beautiful drive to work one morning:

And northern lights, in October! The first photo shows a giant horseshoe-shaped aurora above Anchorage on October 21st. The second photo, taken by our neighbor, is a silhouette of our home with the aurora borealis overhead! (I think I’ll save that shot for the day we decide to sell the place.)

“Summer” 2023 was a bit of a bust, but these October skies are a solid reminder that Alaska is one heck of a special place to live.
